polish movie posters

So last week my brother, Rob, and I got into a conversation about movies and whatnot. We started talking about the remake of Dawn of the Dead. While I love the original, I thought the remake was a great way to update the genre. Rob, being about five years older, felt it was okay, but recalled how even just the poster for the original gave him shivers.

Can't really argue with that. The colors, the font, the creepy bald head and the greatest tagline ever imagined add up to one fantastic piece of advertising art. One of our local theaters, the Lynbrook theater, used to show a lot of midnight movies, so there were always these bizarre and scary posters on the wall. The one that scared the crap out of me was for Neil Jordan's Company of Wolves.

I mean, Christ, LOOK AT IT! I just remember being, like, 8, and being utterly horrified and fascinated by it. I've still never seen it, but I don't think I really need to. The poster's enough.

So anyway, during this discussion we hopped online to find some pictures of these posters. After some searching, we stumbled upon THIS WEBSITE, showcasing some great movie posters from around the world. I was immediately drawn in to this one from Poland. Can you figure out what American film this poster is advertising? (try to guess before you continue)

It's for the original Alien. Now, granted, the American poster is a classic in its own right, but look at that Polish one again! It's just so surreal and wonderful.

After some more searching, we found THIS SITE, which is all Polish posters for films of many countries. Not all of them are winners, but many of them are amazing. Like this one for Blow Up:

Or how about Weekend at Bernie's?

What the hell?

Anyway, some cool stuff to look at, so if you're into that sort of thing, go check it out. I'm going to try to find a copy of that Alien poster. So far I've only found one copy online for $450. Hmmm.....
