bow wow wow: c30, c60, c90, GO!
This is fantastic. I was just browsing through the nostalgia filled Bedazzled website and found this Bow Wow Wow video.
I've never seen it before. In fact, pretty much all I know about the band is "I Want Candy" and the fact that the lead singer posed naked on one of their covers.
So, finding this video is pretty cool. I was immediately drawn in by the tribal drum beats, but then I realized the lyrics are about audio piracy.
"C30 C60 C90 Go
off the radio I get a constant flow
hit it, pause it, record it and play
turn it, rewind, and rub it away"
She goes on to sing about how the record stores are always out of the albums she wants, so she just tapes them off the radio or her friends.
"It used to break my heart when I went in your shop
and you said my records were out of stock
so I don't buy records in your shop
now I tape them all, 'cause I'm Top of the Pops!"
In their Wikipedia entry, it states that their label, EMI, refused to promote the cassette single for this song because side B was blank, which encouraged piracy. Brilliant.
